WEST COAST OF THE BASSE TERRE - REALLY INTERESTING
When coming from the south, the first stop is for Vieux Habitants where you will enjoy the banks of Grand Riviere, visit the Coffee Museum and, principally, discover the domain called “la Maison du Café”, la Grivelière.
A few kilometers farther, just for your eyes, the superb “Anse à la Barque “ (boat cove), a real postcard…
After 2 minutes, a small beach, quite rocky but really well shaded, Petite Anse.
Travelling a few minutes, after the town of Bouillante, just leaving Pigeon lies the beach of Malendure, with a preserved maritime domain, a real paradise for scuba divers. A lot of other aquatic pleasures and discoveries are offered.
Continuing north you will find the road “Route de la Traversée” which allows, by crossing the Basse Terre eastbound, to reach the Grande Terre.
After this crossroad you arrive in Pointe Noire which deserves a stop for the beaches and the craftsman “Rêve de Sable”. Continuing the same road after his workshop, a few kilometers farther, the small sanctuary “Notre Dame des Larmes” on your right.
On the main road, between Pointe Noire and Deshaies, at the bottom of a very steep road a nice beach, well shaded in the morning, Petite Anse, very quiet and perfect to see a lot of fishes.
Shortly before entering Deshaies you cannot miss visiting the splendid botanic garden located on the property of a late French artist (Coluche) who donated this place for the garden.
After crossing Deshaies, a pretty little town located in a nice cove (where the mini series “Death in Paradise” was filmed, you will find the most beautiful beaches of the West coast : Grande Anse and Anse de la Perle : yellow sand and blue sea…
